I have to say, this birthday weekend I'm feeling the most at peace I've felt in a long time. So, the lotus flower it is.

Fancy pink.

Last week I was surprised by three new {to me} flower pins from my friend, Courtney! She found them thrifting, of course. This is one of the lovely three. A vintage pink stone flower set in golden brass. It's two of my favorite things: fancy and pink.

Candyland Take 2.

A few weeks ago I posted about a Sarah Coventry Candyland pin I found at a local consignment store. You can find the post here: Candyland.

Today I decided it was time to wear them. It was the first day in my new office and I decided it was a great way to get back into the swing of wearing my flowers daily. That was the whole idea, right? So here they are, in all their loveliness. 

Today was also a gorgeous day that felt like fall. I was immediately ready for the cooler weather and leaves falling. These flowers are my homage to summer. I'll be ready to welcome the new season tomorrow.

A Piece of the Beach.

My BFF Ginni brought this beautiful pin home for me from the beach! What a lovely surprise and I just can't get enough of it. I'm 90% sure it's from the 40's, although I haven't been able to find another one like it. It's in perfect condition and reminds me of a pin-wheel, one of my favorite toy and child-hood relics. 

Candyland.

I found this gem today at Consignment 1st on Battleground. A vintage 1967 Sarah Coventry flower pin from her Candyland line. It's in perfect vintage condition and the picture doesn't do the neon justice. I am so thrilled with this unique find. 

The extra-fun part to this find was as I was doing research a quick google search, I found the matching earrings on etsy. Ordered and on their way!

Channeling Emma.

Last night was the season finale of Glee, and, as an Emma Pillsbury-loving Gleek, I decided to pay homage today by wearing one of my favorite mod flower pins.

Flowers on Display.

Every once in a while I get asked where I keep all of my flowers. For a long time they were hanging from a vintage-y scarf over our closet door. That actually worked pretty well, and I would suggest it to anyone for a quick and fancy-feeling display. When we put our house on the market we were asked to de-clutter. {Flower pin as clutter? Never! But, to each his own..} So for those months they ended up in a dresser drawer, all laid out for quick picking. When we took the house off of the market, I knew it was time to get serious about displaying my treasures. So last year, my favorite hubby and I made this:

It was so ridiculously easy, I didn't take "tutorial" pics. 

There were our supplies:

• Old white-board found in basement
• Fabulous piece of fabric
• Quilt batting
• Glue {We started with glue that was ferociously toxic, so change instead to:}
• Hammer and Nails

I wanted a fabric that was adorable but did not take over, either. I found this nice little pattern from Joanne fabrics. I glued two layers of quilt batting to the white-board and covered it, just over the edges.

Kyle then hammered the fabric in place with tiny nails around the entire back edging:

I cut the edges back slightly but that's up against the wall so I wasn't too concerned about perfection. Here's a side-view of the final product:

It's super easy to pin them on with the quilt batting in place and now they have their own little place for display.

This lovely pair was a gift from Ginni. I couldn't decide which one to wear today so decided it would be best to wear them both.

Neon love.

Have I mentioned how much I enjoy the neon comeback? If not, I do. It's one part of the 80's that I appreciate {along with pre-crazy-arms Madonna.} So, happy Friday...and happy neon.

Color-blocking

In an attempt to keep up with the current styles, today I am wearing my "color-blocked" and neon flower. Vintage red and neon pink. Not signed. Circa ? Channeling the 80's.

It's not easy being green.

Green flower brooches are a rare occurrence. I don't know why--maybe because there are not that many green flowers in the world {the tie-dyed carnations at Harris Teeter don't count.} Anyway, when I came across this little beauty at First Friday a few months ago, I shelled out the $10 to call it mine. I am 90% sure it was not originally green, simply painted over. The effect was still worth it, though, and the elusive green flower brooch is no more. {I happened to also received a beautiful all-green flower from my Sister-In-Law this year that will be  profiled shortly.}

Jade love.

This antique gold daisy has a beautiful green {jade?} center. It is in perfect vintage condition and one of my new favorites. A special gift from my sister-in-law, Amanda, for Christmas this year. It's perfect and I love having it in my collection.

Coro Blue.

Coro signed Blue enamel flower pin. Bought a few months ago from a lovely booth at Design Archives Emporium. The scripted version of the signature found on the pin itself originated in 1919 and the company closed their doors in 1979, so it is Circa somewhere in between. This is a great little website with more info. I just love the sapphire blue and the simple beauty.

New Year. New Job. New Flowers.

This new (to me) flower was a Christmas gift from my dear friend, Nancy. It is a beautiful vintage golden rose. Signed by Giovanni. A quick google search revealed it is actually named "The Legend of the Christmas Rose" after a Biblical story of a young girl who had no gift for the baby Jesus until a Christmas rose appeared for her. The rose itself grows in the middle of winter.
